Can Rabbits Eat Watermelon

Rabbits can eat a very small amount of watermelon as a treat.  If you feed your rabbit too much watermelon it may cause digestive troubles and diarrhea because it has too much sugar in it.

The diet of adult  rabbits should be primarily based on well balanced pellets that are grain & soy free and rich in timothy hay.  This type of diet will ensure that they are receiving the vitamins and minerals they need to stay healthy.   The amount of fiber in the diet of your rabbit is directly related to the quantity of B-vitamins and other nutrients that will be produced by healthy bacteria in their gut.  A balanced diet will greatly improve the fur coat and your bunnies will be more playful because they will be healthier.

Baby rabbits need a diet that is higher in energy to support healthy growth.  This type of diet should be low in carbohydrates but high in fiber as well as in fat (like mamma's milk).  They also need quality protein and extra choline (an important vitamin) for healthy cells and organs.

Following these feeding recommendations will promote optimal health for your pet rabbit.  So, can rabbits eat watermelon?  Yes they can but only in small amounts as a treat!
